• The founders were part of a new wave of Brazilian modernism and intended for their furniture to complement modern architecture.
• Their designs were influenced by European modernists such as Marcel Breuer and Mies van der Rohe, and American architects like Frank Lloyd Wright and Richard Neutra.
• The furniture was handmade in small batches by skilled craftsmen, using native Brazilian woods like jacaranda and caviuna, along with materials like glass, iron, and marble.
• Some of the studio’s notable pieces include the MF5 armchair and the R3 armchair.
• Branco & Preto closed in the late 1950s but left a significant mark on the history of Brazilian design. 

• After his initial work in architecture, Gillon founded the company Fábrica de Móveis Cidam in 1961, which was later renamed Italma WoodArt.
• His company produced high-end furniture and was also known for its exquisite tapestries.
• A successful businessman, Gillon exported his products to more than 20 countries.

• Rodeio Sofa (1968): This mid-century piece has a frame of Brazilian rosewood and is upholstered in leather.
• Amazonas Lounge Chair (1960s): Another sought-after design, this chair also combines a wooden frame with elegant seating. 

• Gillon’s designs are celebrated for their use of Brazilian materials and unique aesthetic that blended European and Brazilian sensibilities.
